False Chorus - BiH Election Monitoring Report 2026
Monitoring coordinated inauthentic behaviour in a Politically Captured Environment: The latest manipulation techniques
About
False Chorus examines how coordinated inauthentic behaviour shaped the online information environment around Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 4 October 2026 general election. While new biometric and ballot-scanning measures strengthened election-day safeguards, the report finds clear evidence of online manipulation in the weeks before the vote.
Produced by the Balkan Free Media Initiative (BFMI) with Clemson University’s Media Forensics Hub, the report identifies a coordinated network supporting the SNSD across X and Facebook. The network used compartmentalised groups of accounts and linked personas to amplify political messaging, attack opponents and create the appearance of broader public support.
The report also shows how this activity interacted with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s wider media environment. Coordinated accounts repeatedly entered the comment sections of major broadcasters and political pages, revealing how online manipulation, captured or aligned media, and regulatory gaps can reinforce one another.
Key Findings
A coordinated network of accounts supported the SNSD, amplifying party figures while attacking political opponents and questioning the credibility of electoral institutions.
The network was small but deliberately compartmentalised, with roughly two dozen X accounts divided into ten separate pods and linked to matching personas on Facebook or Instagram.
Its methods and messaging showed clear parallels with Serbian political influence operations, particularly tactics previously associated with Serbia’s governing SNS.
Coordinated accounts repeatedly dominated comment sections on media and political pages, creating an artificial impression of widespread grassroots support for the SNSD. False Chorus
The report identifies an emerging hybrid influence model, where coordinated online behaviour, captured or aligned media, and weak regulatory oversight reinforce one another and make manipulation harder to detect and counter. False Chorus
