Antoinette Nikolova is the Co-Founder and Director of the Balkan Free Media Initiative (BFMI), an independent organisation focused on structural gaps in Southeast Europe’s media landscape, particularly overlooked practices and influence structures shaping the information environment.

A veteran journalist with extensive international experience, she has worked with major media organisations including Deutsche Welle, Euractiv, Sky, Life. Economist, News Corp’s bTV, and the Nova Broadcasting Group, covering some of the most significant international and European events. Her reporting and analysis focus on international and European affairs.

She previously served on the Board of the Foreign Press Association in Italy and was a lecturer at the Centro Studi Americani. Based between Brussels and Rome, she leads BFMI’s policy and advocacy initiatives across Southeast Europe.
