Oliver Money-Kyrle is a Brussels-based media freedom expert, analyst, and senior advocacy leader specialising in European journalism policy, press freedom, and the structural dynamics of media capture. With over 28 years of experience defending journalists’ rights worldwide, he brings deep institutional insight to BFMI.
Prior to joining BFMI, Oliver served as Head of Europe Advocacy at the International Press Institute (IPI), where he led high-level policy campaigns in Brussels and Strasbourg. His work contributed to key EU initiatives, including the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), the Anti-SLAPP Directive, the Digital Services Act, and the Democracy Shield. He also led several media freedom missions around Europe and supported the Council of Europe’s work on journalists’ safety.
Previously, he spent more than two decades at the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), managing press freedom and media development projects across Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the Middle East.
Oliver is particularly focused on the Big Tech regulation, market viability and monitoring the grey zone between illegal and harmful content and free speech.
